From May to October of 1917, Our Lady appeared to three children in Fatima, Portugal.  Ten-year-old Lucia and her two younger cousins, Francisco and Jacinta witnessed six apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Word of the apparitions brings many pilgrims to the site, hoping to experience healings and witness miracles.  The Blessed Mother gives the message to the children that prayer and fasting will bring an end to the war.  They are given a vision of hell where poor sinners go who have not repented.  In the last apparition on October 13th, many thousands of people do witness the Miracle of the Sun.
