The Fisherman's Tomb - The True Story of the Vatican's Secret Search
By John O’Neill
As I read this incredible story, I had to keep reminding myself that it was a TRUE story, not a fictional mystery novel. We owe it all to Pope Pius XI, who asked to be buried in a simple grave under St. Peter’s Basilica. When he died, on February 11, 1939, an excavation crew began to dig down into the ground below St. Peter’s to make room for his grave. Suddenly, a workman fell through the floor! He found himself in an unknown world which stretched for miles, and would take seventy-five-years to uncover, in secrecy, amidst strong adversity from some Vatican insiders. Another title for this book could be “Against All Odds.”
