UPDATE (2024)

For the next few years, Larry and Joetta Lewis spoke and sang at conferences and parishes across the country.  After one such event, back home, Larry was watching a ball game with a friend and Joetta was in the kitchen fixing food for the three of them.  Suddenly, the friend called for Joetta to come quickly.  Without making a sound, Larry had gone from this world to Eternity.

Joetta had moved closer to her daughter’s family after her husband, Larry, passed away.  Mary Sue lost touch with her for a time.  Then one Sunday morning Mary Sue received a call from Joetta out of the blue.  Joetta began the conversation by asking:
“Is there something wrong with you or Larry?”
“Why do you want to know this?” Mary Sue asked.
“Because at 3 AM this morning, Jesus woke me and told me to get up and pray for Larry and Mary Sue.”
Joetta said, “I told Him, Lord, I’m so tired. I will pray for them in the morning.”
“No”, he insisted, “You must pray now.  So, I got up and prayed at 3 AM.”
Mary Sue said, “Joetta, my Larry died at 3:45 AM this morning while you were praying.”

Larry and Joetta Lewis were a close couple deeply in love with each other.  I’ve often wondered since Jesus woke Joetta to pray for us, if He also sent Larry Lewis to escort Larry Eck into paradise.
