Heart in Pilgrimage - Meditating Christian Spirituality in the Light of the Eucharistic Prayer
Even though the Mass has been celebrated in the vernacular since the 1960s, the Eucharistic Prayers remain little known and less understood. They pass over us without our giving them much thought or prayerful reflection and, as a result, the quality of our spiritual life becomes impoverished and our intelligent participation in the sacred liturgy suffers. This book is offered as an attempt to bring about a deepening of our understanding of the truth that the Eucharist is at the center of our life and spirituality as Catholic Christians. If we are to proclaim the Mystery of Faith, as we are called to do each time we attend Mass, should we not endeavor to know and understand a bit better just what it is that we proclaim and to appreciate more what lies behind the words of the Prayer which is central to our worship? This "Catechesis on the Eucharist" is a kind of pilgrimage to the heart which visits in turn and examines from a spiritual perspective each of the current Eucharistic Prayers: the four principal ones, the two Eucharistic Prayers for Masses of Reconciliation, and three for Masses with Children. It should be helpful to clergy and educated laypeople alike in deepening their sense of loving gratitude, deep hope and profound joy in their participation at Mass.
